Pregnancy is a dynamic state – the body is changing rapidly and different areas of the body can become painful or uncomfortable. Women undergo many musculoskeletal, physiological, and emotional changes during and after pregnancy. Many of the aches and pains associated with pregnancy are compounded by changing postures as the baby grows. The following image shows the incorrect tendencies on the left, and the optimal postures on the right.

Here are the things you want to focus on:

  • While these images help illustrate proper posture, sometimes it is hard to know if you are falling into those incorrect tendencies. Book an appointment with a physiotherapist to help you minimize the strain on your body during pregnancy. A physiotherapist will help give you some postural corrections along with exercises to help strengthen the correct muscles which will allow you to keep good posture without thinking about it! Head over your shoulders
  • Shoulders down and back
  • Slightly tuck your butt under and tilt the pelvis
  • Keep a slight bend in the knees
  • Distribute your body weight evenly over each foot.
